CHALLENGE FOR A TITLE
VENIS STRIKES GOLD IN
4-MAN TOURNAMENT
NEWLY crowned DUEL Heavyweight Tournament Champion, Paul Venis from Middlesbrough, stormed to impressive double-KO victories in the innaugural DUEL 4-Man event on March 21st.
In the first semi-final bout, Venis, who has an impressive 24 wins in 24 outings under a mix if boxing, full contact and K-1 style kickboxing bouts, got off to a cautious start against the bigger James Cannon who came out landing nice combination. However, it didn't take long for the 'Boro man to find his range and landed a thunderous right-hook to the side of Cannon's head. The referee, Billy Saul, counted to ten and Venis was declared the winner.
The Final saw Venis return against semi-final 2 winner, Poland's Lukasz Parobiec, who stormed to a second-round KO victory over upcoming Yorkshireman and Combat Challenge K-1 champion, Darren 'The Honeymonster' Moffitt, from Leeds.
The bell goes and Parobiec throws a head-height push-front kicks which only scrapes the face of Venis, whilst causing Parobiec to slip. Both fighters exchange low kicks and trade head shots. Parobiec it a big powerful fighter and lands with a few decent jabs, but narrowly misses with a spinning backfist. For two big men they also throw some decent body kick-head shot cominations, however, It's easy to see that Venis has boxing experience and lands more flush shots to the chin of the tough Parobiec who gets knocked down for an 8-count from a short right hand. On shaky feet, Parobiec shows great heart to try to get stuck in with punches, but Venis, looking very strong and fresh, stands his ground and throws back and lands a head-kick to wobble his opponent again. Seeing this, Venis closes in and lands a strong left hook to drop Parobiec for another 8-count. Back up to his feet again, but again on unsteady legs, Venis closes in landing two consecutive one-two's then finishes it with a big left-hook at 2:15 of the first round.
